Tommy Fleetwood is back on the PGA Tour this week, ready to turn the page after a heartbreaking finish at The Masters. The Englishman was in the mix at Augusta National heading into Sunday, but a final-round 76 saw his dream of a first major victory slip away, leaving him tied for 33rd.
Now, he seeks a swift rebound at the star-studded RBC Heritage, where he'll face a field including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Justin Thomas. For Fleetwood, every tournament is a step toward his ultimate goal, but there's one trophy he covets above all others.
In a recent interview, Fleetwood revealed that The Open Championship holds a uniquely powerful place in his heart. "I was born there, my family still live there or are from there, and it’s the tournament I dream the most of," he shared, referring to Royal Birkdale, which will host the 154th Open this July.
He acknowledges the weight of expectation that comes with playing a major on home soil but chooses to channel it positively. "I’m not unaware of the fact that just playing at Birkdale is the most special thing ever. Whatever happens, I have to remember it’s the most special thing just to play it."
Fleetwood's best Open finish was a runner-up spot in 2019, and after breaking through for his maiden PGA Tour win at the 2025 Tour Championship, he knows what it takes to close out big events. Reflecting on that breakthrough in Atlanta, he highlighted his resilient mindset: "One of the things I was most proud of... was that I could be proof that you keep saying the right things, doing the right things, and you will have success."
That perseverance, forged through years of near-misses, finally delivered the FedEx Cup and has him poised for another major charge. As the golf world looks ahead to Royal Birkdale this summer, all eyes will be on Fleetwood to see if he can turn his greatest dream into reality.
