For the second straight season, Toledo's Riverhawks found a way to get past the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley Titans, this time with a late-game surge to secure a 6-1 road victory on Friday. The win keeps Toledo's strong season rolling at 9-1.
The game was a tight pitcher's duel through five innings, locked at 1-1. The deadlock was shattered in the top of the sixth when the Riverhawks' offense erupted for five runs. The rally was fueled by clutch extra-base hits, including a two-run double from Camryn Hurley and a two-RBI triple by Taysia Miller.
Pitchers Peyton Holter and Brenna Carver were stellar for Toledo, combining to allow just three hits and one earned run while striking out four. Their performance stifled a PWV lineup that had taken an early lead on an RBI double from Tylar Keeton.
Despite the loss, Titans pitcher Eliza Barnum turned in a notable performance, racking up nine strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Both teams now look ahead to busy weeks, with Toledo facing Mossyrock and PWV set for a rematch with league rival Adna.
