Toby Collyer, the promising Manchester United midfielder currently on loan at Hull City, has opened up about his season's journey and made his "main goal" crystal clear as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 22-year-old's campaign has been a tale of two halves—and plenty of setbacks. After a challenging stint at West Brom in the first half of the season, where persistent injuries limited him to just 12 appearances, Collyer moved to Hull City in January. Unfortunately, his time there also began with a fresh injury, but when he's been fit, his performances have turned heads and earned praise from his managers. The only frustration? Those standout moments remain too few and far between.

In a revealing chat with Andy Mitten of The Athletic, Collyer laid out his priorities. "I spoke to my agent and they spoke to the club. The main thing was just to try and get as many minutes as possible," he said. "I don't think this season would have been the season to stay around United, with us not being in Europe. And look what happened with the likes of Kobbie (Mainoo) at the start of the season, even Ayden. No cups meant players had periods struggling for minutes. If I stayed, I could've had even less—would have had even less potentially. It was the right decision this season to come out on loan."

Reflecting on his time at West Brom, Collyer had nothing but good things to say about the environment—even if the results didn't match the effort. "I enjoyed it. Ryan Mason, I liked the manager, staff around him. Mozza — James Morrison — who's now in charge. The lads were great. But once you're on the training pitch, you're fighting for minutes. They had really good ideas, just didn't really pick up the results."

The midfielder also opened up about a frustrating injury that derailed his momentum. "I got quite a bad calf injury, out for eight-10 weeks. I accidentally tweaked something before the game and then it's just gone completely in the game." He did his rehab back at United and found a silver lining: "I noticed that I felt I'd gained something being in a different environment, more of a man. And even though I was injured, I was in the United first-team dressing room still."

For Collyer, the message is simple: minutes matter. And with a summer of decisions ahead, he's already thinking like a professional ready to take the next step.
