The Tennessee Titans are back on the practice field, but it’s not their plays that have everyone talking—it’s their drills.

Rookie minicamps are underway across the NFL following the 2026 Draft, giving teams a first look at their newest talent in light, fundamentals-focused sessions. But when the Titans hit the field on Friday, they didn’t just work on technique—they created an obstacle course that’s drawing comparisons to, well, just about everything except football.

A video posted by team writer Jim Wyatt showed undrafted wide receiver Tyren Montgomery navigating a maze of scattered equipment. Think of it as a football practice that sneezed out all its gear, and the Titans said, “Good luck.”

The internet, predictably, had a field day.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan joked, “Titans steal this drill from the Westminster Dog Show?” CBS Sports’ JP Acosta simply asked, “Man, what is this?” One X user called it “a classic skill acquisition principle: muscle confusion.”

Several coaches and trainers chimed in with a more serious take: NFL teams might be overlooking a key area. “NFL coaches are great at scheme, film breakdown, and teaching technique. Their drills, though, are awful,” said athletic development specialist Josh Harris. Football coach Ross Cooper added, “There is a real void when we see this at every practice. This is time improvement could happen.”

For the Titans, the timing of this viral moment is interesting. The 2026 season is shaping up to be a pivotal one. Quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in 2025, is looking to bounce back from a tough rookie year. New head coach Robert Saleh is taking over after Brian Callahan’s rocky tenure. And with a brand-new stadium set to open in 2027, the pressure is on to build a competitive team.

Tennessee has already made big moves, spending heavily in free agency to upgrade both sides of the ball—especially the defense. So while the obstacle course might be getting laughs now, the Titans are clearly serious about turning things around. Whether their drills will follow suit remains to be seen.
