Florida Atlantic University confirms longstanding reports that Curacao will train for the World Cup on its campus in Boca Raton.

Get ready, Boca Raton! A different kind of Blue Wave is rolling into town this summer, and it's bringing the spirit of the World Cup with it. Florida Atlantic University has officially confirmed that the Curaçao Men's National Team will set up its pre-tournament training camp on campus, turning FAU into a hub of international soccer excitement.

This is a landmark moment for the tiny Dutch Caribbean island nation, which, with a population of just 156,000, now holds the title of the smallest country ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Nicknamed the "Blue Wave," the team's journey is a classic underdog story, having clinched their spot with a gritty 0-0 draw in Jamaica to earn their place on the world's biggest stage.

"Florida Atlantic is honored to be selected as a World Cup host training site and excited to welcome the Curaçao Men’s National Team here this summer," said FAU athletic director Brian White. The team is slated to arrive in early June, basing themselves at the Boca Raton Marriott as they prepare for the tournament running from June 11 to July 19 across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Ranked 82nd in the world, Curaçao faces a formidable challenge in Group E, opening against powerhouse Germany in Houston on June 14. They'll then take on Ecuador in Kansas City on June 20 and wrap up the group stage against Ivory Coast in Philadelphia on June 25. While seven matches will be played at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, Curaçao would need a stunning run into the knockout rounds to play there, making their preparation at FAU all the more critical.

The team recently tested themselves in friendlies against China and Australia, and their time in Boca Raton will be vital for fine-tuning tactics and building cohesion. FAU also expects the national team to engage with the local community, with specific events to be announced, offering fans a rare, up-close look at a World Cup squad in training.

"This is a unique chance to experience World Cup soccer firsthand while showcasing Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton and Palm Beach County on a global stage," said FAU President Adam Hasner. For soccer fans and underdog supporters alike, having a World Cup team train in our backyard is an incredible opportunity to feel the pulse of the tournament before the first whistle blows.
