The Detroit Tigers are reportedly eyeing a blockbuster trade that could transform their lineup, with whispers connecting them to San Francisco Giants slugger Rafael Devers. According to Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer, the Tigers—currently sitting near the bottom of MLB in home runs with just 38—could be the perfect landing spot for the three-time All-Star and Silver Slugger winner.
"What's true either way is that they need a bat, and specifically a power bat," Rymer wrote. "They've hit only 38 home runs, ranking them firmly in the bottom 10 of MLB." He highlighted how Devers would not only boost production but also solve the Tigers' revolving door at designated hitter, where Colt Keith has taken most plate appearances without hitting a single home run.
Devers, who crushed 35 homers in 2025, has struggled to find his rhythm in 2026 with just five dingers for the Giants. However, early-season slumps are nothing new for a proven power hitter of his caliber, and the Tigers could be betting on a resurgence. The 29-year-old infielder could slot in at first base or DH, with manager A.J. Hinch able to rotate Spencer Torkelson or Keith into the lineup as needed.
While there's no guarantee the Tigers will pull the trigger, the trade deadline presents a golden opportunity to add some much-needed pop. In a tight AL Central race, even a couple of extra wins could make all the difference—and Devers might just be the spark Detroit needs.
