The Detroit Tigers are finally getting some much-needed pitching reinforcements, and fans have every reason to feel a surge of optimism. Ace Casey Mize is set to take the mound again this Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, marking his return from the 15-day injured list after dealing with a right adductor strain. The 2025 All-Star was in the middle of a stellar start to the season before he had to exit his April 28 outing against the Atlanta Braves, but his numbers so far have been nothing short of impressive: a 2.90 ERA over 31 innings and a career-high 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Mize isn't the only arm making a comeback this weekend. The Tigers also activated right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold from the injured list just in time for Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays. Seabold had been sidelined since April 26 with left ankle inflammation, but he's back after making eight appearances this season and posting a solid 4.09 ERA over 11 innings. To clear a roster spot, the team optioned Ricky Vanasco to Triple-A Toledo—a move that makes sense after Vanasco struggled in his four big-league outings, allowing seven earned runs.

The injury bug has been relentless for Detroit's pitching staff, with key names like Tarik Skubal (elbow surgery), Justin Verlander (hip inflammation), and Jackson Jobe (Tommy John surgery) all on the mend. Reese Olson is unfortunately out for the season with a shoulder injury. But there's good news on the horizon: Verlander threw a 50-pitch live bullpen session at Comerica Park on Friday, Skubal has started playing catch in Lakeland, Florida, and relievers Will Vest and Beau Brieske are set to make rehab appearances for Triple-A Toledo in Omaha tonight.

For a team that's been missing so many impact arms, this weekend's returns feel like a turning point. Whether you're gearing up for game day or just catching up on the latest, it's a great time to be a Tigers fan.
