The Detroit Tigers are making a name swap that's more than just alphabetical—they're activating Zach McKinstry and designating Zack Short for assignment. In a move that's as clever as it is strategic, Detroit is swapping one "Zack" for another "Zach" to shake up their roster.

The Tigers have been battling to keep pace with the Cleveland Guardians atop the American League, but the news hasn't been all good lately. Ace Tarik Skubal landing on the injured list was a massive blow to the rotation. However, the team got a welcome boost on the injury front just a day later.

According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, the Tigers have officially activated infielder Zach McKinstry from the 10-day injured list. To free up a spot on the 40-man roster, they've designated infielder Zack Short for assignment. Short, a former New York Yankees veteran, struggled to make an impact in Detroit, going hitless in three at-bats this season—though he did post a .294 average during spring training with the Yankees.

McKinstry's return is a bright spot for a Tigers lineup that could use some pop. Last season, he earned an All-Star nod with a .771 OPS and solid defense, making him a key contributor. This year, he's been limited by a hip issue, posting a .209 average and .587 OPS before the injury. Now healthy, he's expected to provide a much-needed offensive spark.

This Zach-for-Zack swap is a clever roster shuffle that highlights Detroit's focus on improving their offense as they head into May. While Short didn't get much of a chance to shine in the big leagues this year, McKinstry's track record suggests he could be the boost the Tigers need to stay competitive in the AL Central race.
