In a masterful display of pitching dominance, Ticonderoga's Jackson Dorsett etched his name into the local baseball lore with a no-hitter against Moriah on Monday afternoon. The Sentinels' ace was virtually untouchable, striking out 16 batters while walking just three in a 2-0 CVAC victory that had fans on the edge of their seats.
The game was a classic pitcher's duel from the first pitch. Moriah's Joey Kazlo was no slouch himself, going the distance with eight strikeouts while allowing only five hits and six walks. But in these matchups, it's often the smallest moments that decide the outcome.
"Jackson threw a no-hitter in a tough pitching duel with Joey Kazlo," Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said. "He struck out the side in the seventh and recorded at least two strikeouts in every inning pitched."
The Sentinels' offense did just enough to support their star pitcher. Parker Davis set the table with two hits and an RBI, while Dorsett helped his own cause with a run-scoring single. The game's pivotal moment came in the bottom of the first inning when Dorsett battled through a long at-bat before delivering an RBI single up the middle, scoring Davis who had singled and stolen second base.
Ticonderoga added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Eli Dromgool led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and was driven home by Davis. The final line: Dorsett and Frasier for Ticonderoga, Kazlo and Orr for Moriah. Dorsett earned the win, Kazlo took the loss.
In other area action, Crown Point saw a low-scoring thriller as Schroon Lake/Newcomb's Lucas LaPerle outdueled Kaden Hurlburt in a 1-0 shutout. LaPerle scattered four hits while striking out 11 and walking just two. The game's only run came in the top of the seventh inning when Daniel Pelkey singled with two outs and scored on Julian Porcaro's RBI triple.
"Great defense was played by both teams," Crown Point coach Bobby Primo said. Pelkey finished with a double and two singles for Schroon Lake/Newcomb, while Jayce Emmert added two singles. For Crown Point, Hurlburt and Owen Carey each doubled.
Meanwhile, Bolton's bats came alive late in a 10-0 victory over Lake Placid. John Roemer went the distance for the Eagles, allowing six hits with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Jace Hubert led the offensive charge with four hits, while Will Hens and Liam Foy each added three and Jaxon Egloff chipped in two. After holding a slim 3-0 lead through four innings, Bolton erupted for 10 runs over the final three frames, including five in the seventh to put the game away.
