Thurston baseball standout Carlin Crutcher has been named the Active Chiropractic high school boys Athlete of the Week, as determined by Register-Guard readers. The sophomore slugger delivered a stellar performance on May 5, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs to power the Colts to a dominant 24-2 victory over Springfield. Just three days later, Crutcher continued his hot streak by crushing a home run and driving in five runs in a 17-0 rout of the Millers. He earned 48.49% of the reader votes, edging out Creswell's Kayden Roberts, who finished second with 43.47%.
This week's nominees showcased exceptional talent across multiple sports, with track and field athletes stealing the spotlight. Triangle Lake junior Tristen Adams blazed to a personal-best 38.87 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles on May 2 at the Marist Track Classic, a time that ranks fourth in state history for Class 1A hurdlers and sixth overall in Oregon this season regardless of classification. Meanwhile, Cottage Grove sophomore Jacob Dugas leaped to a personal-best triple jump of 42 feet, 6.75 inches at the same meet, securing the ninth-best mark among Class 4A boys statewide.
Elmira's Trayvn Dumont, a sophomore, turned heads with a 400-meter personal best of 52.04 seconds on May 5 at The Cinco De Mayo Meet, clocking the ninth-fastest time among Class 3A boys this season. Marist Catholic junior Drew Granade also impressed, running a 400-meter personal best of 49.60 seconds for second place at the Marist Track Classic, along with a second-place finish in the 100 meters (11.47 seconds). His 400 time ranks third in the state among Class 4A boys.
Marist Catholic continued to shine with junior Aidan Miller, who posted a 300-meter hurdles personal best of 40.39 seconds for third place at the Marist Track Classic—the fastest time in the state this season for Class 4A boys. Fellow Spartan Coen Rushton, a junior, won the 200 meters at the same meet with a personal best of 22.59 seconds, good for ninth-best in Class 4A, and added a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a season-best 49.62 seconds, fourth on the 4A season list.
In baseball action, Creswell senior Kayden Roberts delivered a clutch moment on May 5, smashing a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth inning to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-3 home victory over Pleasant Hill. From track records to walk-off hits, this week's athletes proved that hard work and determination pay off on the biggest stages.
