Thursday Morning Links: A Night of Drama, Comebacks, and Unlikely Heroes

Adam and I were at the game last night, soaking in the electric atmosphere. Adam left early in the sixth inning, missing the wild theatrics that unfolded. Trust us—it was something you had to see to believe.

On the injury front, Chris Martin made a rehab appearance for Round Rock on Tuesday, but batters teed off on his usually devastating splitter. Martin isn't sure if it's a mechanical issue or an execution problem, calling the sudden decline of his most effective pitch "a real head scratcher." For a pitcher known for his precision, this is certainly worth monitoring.

Meanwhile, Nathan Eovaldi threw a bullpen session yesterday and feels confident he'll make his next scheduled start on Sunday. However, Skip Schumaker is playing it safe, not yet ready to pencil that in stone. Eovaldi's presence on the mound is always a boost, especially given his postseason pedigree.

Last night's walkoff victory featured some unlikely heroes: Jake Burger and Danny Jansen. Jansen, however, would quickly correct that label. He reminded his teammates that this was his fifth career walkoff hit—a stat that proves he thrives under pressure. Burger, after being benched for two games to "get right with Jesus," has responded in a big way, collecting five hits in the last two games. Sometimes a little time off is all it takes to reset the swing.

Whether you're cheering from the stands or watching from home, nights like these remind us why baseball is the ultimate theater of the unexpected.
