The Oklahoma City Thunder prove too strong for the Los Angeles Lakers to take a 1-0 lead in the NBA's Conference semi-finals.

The Oklahoma City Thunder made a thunderous statement in their Conference semi-final opener, overpowering the Los Angeles Lakers 108-90 to take a 1-0 series lead. As the Western Conference's top seed, the defending champions showcased why they're the team to beat, delivering a balanced offensive performance while clamping down on defense to hold the Lakers to their lowest playoff score since 2021.

LeBron James fought hard for a game-high 27 points, but the Thunder's depth proved too much. Chet Holmgren led the charge with a dominant 24-point, 12-rebound double-double, while NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ajay Mitchell each added 18 points to keep the offense flowing. The Thunder's defense was the real story, stifling LA's rhythm and forcing the Lakers into costly mistakes.

"You're playing the world champs, your margin for error in terms of mistakes is not that high," Lakers head coach JJ Redick admitted. "There were just too many tonight. We've got to clean that up."

Adding to the Lakers' woes, star guard Luka Doncic remained sidelined with a hamstring injury and could miss Game 2 on Thursday. For the Thunder, this series is about proving their championship pedigree, and they're off to a roaring start.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons drew first blood against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a gritty 111-101 home win. Cade Cunningham led the way with 23 points, while veteran Tobias Harris chipped in 20, showing the balance that has made Detroit the East's top seed. Donovan Mitchell countered with 23 points for Cleveland, and James Harden added 22 but struggled with seven turnovers that proved costly.

As the semi-finals heat up, every game is a chance to make a statement—and the Thunder and Pistons have done just that.
