Three Rutgers softball players have been recognized for their standout seasons, earning spots on the NFCA Northeast All-Region Teams announced Thursday. Junior second baseman Sam Rohwer was named to the second team, while sophomore first baseman Baileigh Burtis and freshman catcher Charleigh Schuettler each earned third-team honors.
Rohwer's stellar campaign also earned her a spot on the All-Big Ten first team. She posted a .356 batting average overall, with an impressive .413 mark in conference play. The junior led the team with 17 home runs and tied for the team lead with 11 doubles. Her 58 hits included six lead-off home runs, 16 multi-hit games, and 10 multi-RBI contests. She scored 41 runs and drove in 46 RBIs, ranking second on the team in that category. In the field, Rohwer recorded 90 putouts and 88 assists at second base. Her 17 home runs this season rank fourth in program history.
Burtis, in her second season with Rutgers, batted .344 overall and .351 in Big Ten play. She tallied 53 hits, 35 runs, a team-high tying 11 doubles, six home runs, and 41 RBIs. At first base, she was a defensive anchor with 289 putouts and seven assists.
Schuettler made 41 starts behind the plate as a freshman, registering four double plays, 22 assists, and throwing out eight base stealers. Offensively, she hit .348 with 24 hits, 23 runs, four doubles, two home runs, and 12 RBIs.
Together, the trio powered one of the most explosive offenses in Rutgers history. The team set school records with 74 home runs and 320 RBIs, while posting a .306 batting average — the highest in over a decade. Although the team finished with a .500 overall record and a 6-18 mark in Big Ten play, the progress is undeniable. Rutgers earned seven more wins than the previous season and doubled its conference win total. With all three players expected to return, the future looks bright for a program on the rise.
