Tens of thousands of runners and spectators flooded Bristol's city centre streets this weekend for the annual Great Bristol Run, turning the urban landscape into a vibrant sea of athleticism and community spirit.
The sold-out event kicked off at 8:30 AM BST with the half marathon competitors taking off first, followed by the 10K runners—a smart shift designed to beat the warmer conditions later in the day. This change was just one of several adjustments made by organizers after listening to participant feedback from last year's race.
Both courses were reversed this year, running in the opposite direction to help manage the flow of runners more smoothly. The event also introduced separate start and finish areas to create extra space, along with additional on-course hydration stations to keep athletes fueled and refreshed. Several city center roads were closed for the race but have since reopened, allowing the city to return to its normal rhythm.
Many participants were running for a cause close to their hearts. Anya Evans, who completed the 10K for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, shared a deeply personal story: "When my daughter was born, she had two heart defects. We spent two months in the hospital, and she had life-saving surgery at Bristol Children's Hospital. The Grand Appeal made every day just a little bit less difficult."
Runners were treated to a scenic route boasting stunning views of the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Avon Gorge, while spectators lined the streets to cheer on friends, family, and colleagues. Whether you were chasing a personal best or simply crossing the finish line for a good cause, this year's Great Bristol Run proved once again why it's a highlight on the UK running calendar.
