The side are back in League Two after winning the National League title in dramatic circumstances.

Thousands of passionate York City fans lined the streets to celebrate their club's triumphant return to the Football League after a decade-long absence. The Minstermen secured automatic promotion to League Two by clinching the National League title in heart-stopping fashion—a dramatic 1-1 draw at Rochdale, sealed with a goal in the 103rd minute of stoppage time.

The celebratory parade wound through a 1.2-mile route starting at St Leonard's Place, outside York Art Gallery, crossing the River Ouse twice before finishing at the Eye of York near Clifford's Tower. Co-owners Matthew and Julie-Anne Uggla, beaming with pride, told the crowd they were "elated" to bring professional football back to the city.

The event, originally scheduled for the previous week, had been postponed due to safety concerns raised by City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police. But at a promotion party held at the LNER Community Stadium, Julie-Anne assured fans the parade would be rescheduled—and it delivered on that promise in spectacular fashion.

Among the sea of supporters on Ouse Bridge were lifelong fans Paul Baker, 49, and Mark Gill, 43. Paul described the promotion as "amazing," crediting the owners for reconnecting the club with the community. "They've reborn the club," he said, recalling the moment he heard the equalizer on BBC Radio York. "I jumped on my 81-year-old father, and we both burst into tears—in a good way. He's been going since 1955, so it was very special."

Mark, who queued at 1:30 AM to attend the decisive match, brought his six-year-old son Callum to share the experience. "It's one massive celebration for everybody," he said. "I wanted him to have a memory he'll never forget."

At the parade's conclusion beneath Clifford's Tower, supporter Jack summed up the mood. "It's been a crazy couple of weeks. Great for the city to be back in the league—a fantastic turnout with thousands of fans. Next season, I'm not setting the bar too high—just staying up would be enough."

For York City, this promotion isn't just about returning to the Football League—it's a testament to the unbreakable bond between a club and its community, a story that will inspire fans for generations to come.
