The Offseason Rolls On…

The NFL offseason can feel like a marathon, but we're finally rounding the corner into the third quarter. With the draft behind us and minicamps and OTAs in full swing, there's finally some real football energy in the air. Before the schedule release shakes things up, let's clean out the notebook and catch up on some key developments for our favorite team.

The biggest news? Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is officially a Minnesota Viking. After a preliminary visit last week, the former San Francisco 49ers standout signed a one-year deal worth up to $13 million with incentives. Jennings posted nine touchdowns on 55 receptions last season—impressive numbers, sure. But what really gets us excited is the physicality he brings to the run game. He's an outstanding blocker, and that kind of toughness makes our offense more balanced and much harder to defend.

This signing sparked three immediate thoughts:

First, the Jefferson-Addison-Jennings trio is the most dangerous 1-2-3 receiving threat the Vikings have had since the days of Carter, Moss, and Reed. You know, back when people were excited about AOL Instant Messenger, actually bought CDs, and made weekly Blockbuster runs. Yeah, it's been that long.

Second, while I wasn't initially sold on the move, looking at the bigger picture makes it easier to swallow. Consider this full trade tree: Greenard trade → WR Jauan Jennings (with salary savings) → S Jakobe Thomas (with pick 98) → 2027 3rd round pick → Extra $22.3M in 2027. When you see it laid out like that, the value starts to make sense.

Third, and most importantly, this is more proof that 2026 is playoff-or-bust for this team. An 11-6 or 10-7 season that ends with a one-and-done playoff exit won't cut it. Missing the playoffs entirely would be catastrophic and could trigger a major offseason shakeup. We need to win playoff games, plain and simple.

Speaking of the receiving corps, the Vikings officially exercised Jordan Addison's fifth-year option, keeping him in purple through at least 2027. It was expected, but it's still great to lock down a key piece of our offensive future. With Jennings now in the mix and Addison secured, this offense is built for a serious run—and the pressure is on to deliver.
