In a thrilling Game Two of the Atlantic Division Finals, the Springfield Thunderbirds staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 in overtime, knotting the series at one game apiece.

The Penguins came out flying in the first period, outshooting Springfield 14-4—a dominance that held true even when accounting for two power-play opportunities. Their special teams paid off when forward Bill Zonnon fired a sniper shot from outside the right hash marks, giving Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period brought more Penguins pressure. Just 16 seconds in, AHL All-Star Tristan Broz doubled the lead to 2-0. Later in the frame, another power-play goal—their second of the night—pushed the advantage to 3-0 as the teams headed to the locker room.

But hockey is a game of momentum shifts, and the third period belonged to Springfield. Early in the frame, the T-Birds found themselves shorthanded again, but forward Hugh McGing turned defense into offense with a breakaway short-handed goal, cutting the deficit to 3-1. For much of the period, the Penguins controlled play, outshooting Springfield 4-1 through the first 3:40. Then the tide turned dramatically. The Thunderbirds unleashed a 19-7 shot barrage, and goalie Georgi Romanov was pulled twice for an extra attacker. Both times, forward Dillon Dube delivered, scoring two clutch goals to tie the game 3-3 and force overtime.

Overtime was all Springfield. They outshot the Penguins 11-4, and at the 13:44 mark, forward Akil Thomas completed the comeback with a diving game-winner from the slot, sending the Thunderbirds faithful into a frenzy.

Between the pipes, Romanov was stellar, stopping 39 of 42 shots for a .929 save percentage. His counterpart, Penguins goalie and AHL All-Star Sergei Murashov, made 41 saves on 45 shots for a .911 save percentage, but it wasn't enough to hold off the relentless Springfield attack.

With the series now tied 1-1, all eyes turn to Game Three—where the Thunderbirds will look to carry their momentum and take control of the Atlantic Division Finals.
