It was a week of ups and downs for the Colorado Rockies—more downs than ups, to be honest—but there’s still plenty to talk about in the purple and black. Let’s break it down.
The week started rough. Really rough. The Rockies got swept by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday after giving up 11 runs, and things didn’t get much better when the New York Mets rolled into town. Monday brought another loss, and then the weather decided to join the drama. Snow—yes, snow in May—postponed Tuesday’s game and delayed Wednesday’s first pitch. When the flurries finally cleared, the Rockies fell 10-5 in a chilly affair before finally snapping a six-game losing streak on Thursday.
Friday brought a spark of hope. The offense roared to life in Philadelphia, pulling off a 9-7 extra-innings win against the Phillies after a bullpen collapse forced the game past the ninth. But momentum is a fickle friend in baseball, and the Rockies couldn’t carry it into Saturday. With just two wins so far this month, they’ll look to wrap up the series against the Phillies this morning before heading across Pennsylvania to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Here’s what our staff at Purple Row had to say this week:

And in a nod to Mother’s Day history, on this day in 2017, Nolan Arenado and Pat Valaika combined for three home runs—a reminder that even in tough stretches, Rockies fans have some sweet memories to lean on.
Stay warm, stay purple, and here’s to a better week ahead.
