WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – For most mother-daughter duos, bonding means shopping trips or movie nights. For Meg and CC Cersosimo, it means dominating the lacrosse field together.
The story begins when Meg stepped away from coaching the UConn women's lacrosse team—and immediately welcomed daughter CC into the world. After just one season off, the Conard High girls lacrosse coaching job opened up, and Meg knew it was fate.
CC grew up practically on the Conard sidelines, soaking in the game from day one. Now a junior attack for the Red Wolves, she's helping lead a team that sits at a perfect 12-0 after Saturday's commanding 18-8 victory over Newtown. Her stats are nothing short of impressive: 53 goals and 25 assists this season, with 93 career assists and just eight goals shy of breaking the school record of 206.
But this family connection runs even deeper. Meg was part of UConn's first-ever women's lacrosse recruiting class back in 1997. Now, history is coming full circle—CC has committed to the Huskies, becoming the first child of a UConn alumna to play for the program.
On Mother's Day weekend, the duo was exactly where they belong: on the field together, Meg coaching from the sideline and CC leading the attack. Sunday's plan? Celebrating with family in Philadelphia.
"What's nice for me, speaking of Mother's Day—in those teenage years, parents want to be part of something," Meg reflects. "The fact that I get to be part of something that is CC's most favorite thing is pretty special. She's doing it with her best friends, and I love these kids like they're my own. Not many people get that opportunity. She allows me to be in her world."
Lacrosse runs through the Cersosimo family veins. Husband Matt—whom Meg met at UConn when he worked on the football staff—coaches boys lacrosse and football at Conard. Their son Brady plays both sports, youngest daughter Maggie is an eighth-grade lacrosse player, and even grandfather Rob serves as an assistant coach for the girls team.
"Even when I was super little, I was coached by my mom," CC says. "It's a special bond we have that no one else does. I cherish that bond."
