The Tar Heels are making serious noise in the lacrosse world this season, and the honors keep rolling in. On Thursday, USA Lacrosse announced that 13 North Carolina players have earned All-American recognition—a testament to the depth and dominance of both the men's and women's programs.
The UNC women's squad is riding high after a stellar 16-1 season, capped by an ACC Championship. Their only loss came in overtime to top-ranked Northwestern, and they enter the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 overall seed. The men's team isn't far behind, finishing 12-4 and earning the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
Leading the charge for the women is sophomore sensation Chloe Humphries, who earned first-team All-American honors. The reigning Tewaaraton Award winner is already sixth all-time in goals scored at UNC—and she's just getting started. She leads the nation in both goals and points this season. Joining her on the first team are Sam Forrest, named ACC Defender of the Year, and Eliza Osburn. The women's All-American list also includes Kate Levy (second team), Kaleigh Harden (third team), Addison Pattillo (third team), and Brooklyn Walker-Welch (third team). UNC tied Northwestern for the most women's All-Americans in the country.
On the men's side, the honorees are headlined by first-team selection Brady Wambach, the co-ACC Defender of the Year. Wambach ranks among the nation's best in faceoff win percentage (third) and ground balls per game (first). Second-team picks Ty English and Owen Duffy have been offensive catalysts, with Duffy leading the team in both assists and points. Rounding out the men's selections are honorable mentions Dominic Pietramala, Mason Szewczyk, and Peter Thomann.
Both teams are set to begin NCAA tournament action. The men will host Albany on Saturday, May 9th at noon in Chapel Hill, while the women's tournament run is just ahead. With this many All-Americans on the roster, the Tar Heels are built for a deep postseason push.
