History could be made at Churchill Downs this Saturday—and it won't even require the record-chaser to set foot on the track.

Into Mischief, the legendary 21-year-old stallion standing at Spendthrift Farm, has three sons in this year's Kentucky Derby field: Renegade, Commandment, and Potente. If any of them crosses the finish line first, Into Mischief will become the first sire in history to produce four Kentucky Derby winners—a feat that has eluded even the sport's most iconic bloodlines.

Right now, Into Mischief is tied with four other legendary stallions—Bull Lea, Sir Gallahad III, Falsetto, and Virgil—each of whom sired three Derby champions. Into Mischief's trio of winners includes Authentic (2020), Mandaloun (2021), and Sovereignty (2025). A fourth would put him alone at the top of the record books.

Renegade and Commandment are carrying the best odds heading into post time, both sitting at 5-1 just hours before the gates open. There's one hurdle for Renegade, though: he drew the dreaded No. 1 post position. The last horse to win the Derby from the rail was Ferdinand in 1986—a 40-year drought that Renegade will need to overcome.

Into Mischief's bloodlines are so coveted that his stud fee has soared to $250,000 for 2026, making him the most expensive stallion in North America. It's a remarkable legacy for a horse that never got to run in the Derby himself. He was scratched from the 2008 race due to injury, despite winning three of his six career starts. Now, his offspring are carrying the torch in the sport's most famous race, with a chance to make their father the undisputed king of Kentucky Derby sires.
