Less than a mile down the road, the Detroit Pistons took care of business earlier in the day, and tonight, on a Sunday night game at Comerica, the Tigers did the same thing. That’s one of the best performances of this young season so far. It felt like it was going to be a tall order this evening with Jack Leiter featuring some pretty legitimate stuff. On a Sunday night that saw the Detroit Pistons take care of business just down the road, the Tigers followed suit with one of their most impressive performances of the young season at Comerica Park. It wasn't an easy task, though, as Rangers pitcher Jack Leiter came out firing. He retired the first 12 batters he faced and set a career high in strikeouts, making it look like a long night for Detroit. But the Tigers showed their resilience, capitalizing on some costly mistakes—especially with two strikes.

For a stretch, Detroit's only hits came on 0-2 pitches from Leiter. The first big blast came from Spencer Torkelson, who crushed a breaking ball right over the heart of the plate. When Torkelson gets a mistake, he makes it count, and tonight he was dangerous at the plate. That kind of clutch hitting is exactly what the Tigers need as they build momentum early in the season.

This game also marked the return of "pitching chaos," and it worked to perfection. Tyler Holton started things off, but it was Brant Hurter who handled the bulk of the workload. Hurter has been excellent so far this season, often pitching in thankless innings but consistently getting ahead in counts and inducing weak contact. While he may not generate a ton of swing-and-miss, his effectiveness has been a huge asset for the bullpen. And speaking of the bullpen, aside from the Jansen blowup against Atlanta earlier in the week, this has been a solid week for Detroit's relievers. It's a small sample size, but some guys are starting to step up when it matters most.

The Tigers tacked on four runs in the seventh inning, including the second of two two-out RBIs from Kevin McGonigle. He's simply a player you can't help but love. McGonigle brings elite instincts to the field—whether it's at the plate, on defense, or on the base paths, he's impressed across the board this year. His contributions were key in sealing the series win.

Detroit stays home for a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox starting tomorrow. The Red Sox have had a rocky start to the season, and the Tigers will look to keep their momentum rolling at Comerica.
