The Seattle Seahawks entered Thursday night with only four picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and a big reason was the trade for Rashid Shaheed at the 2025 trade deadline. While most folks are focusing on players their team is adding right now, we are taking a look back on a player that has already re-signed and how the trade shook out.
Saints receive: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2026 fifth-round pick
Rashid Shaheed played nine games each for the Saints and Seahawks in 2025, a truly remarkable 18-game season. he caught 15 passes for 188 yards while adding seven rushes for 64 yards. He returns 27 combined punts and kickoffs for 628 yards and two touchdowns. He added a big opening kickoff return touchdown in the playoffs.
His play was so impactful, the Seahawks re-signed him this offseason.
Those picks worked out pretty poorly for the Saints in the grand scheme of things, with Shahid helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. That means those picks are that last regular picks in each round. The picks ended up at 132 and 172 overall.
The Saints used pick 132 on Auburn guard Jeremiah Wright, while pick 172 will be updated in this article when we get there.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a Seahawks fan that doesn’t approve of the move right now. He set the tone in the NFC Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown as part of a 17-point first quarter. The 49ers would never recover. Shaheed also caught a 51-yard pass on the opening drive in the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams, resulting in an eventual touchdown.
In the long term, the Saints might win if they draft a superstar, but I think at worst, it is a win-win trade for both teams and at best, the Seahawks really benefited.
