The free-agent edge rusher market continues to shrink for the Minnesota Vikings, and the latest name to come off the board is Mike Danna. The veteran pass rusher, who spent the last six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, has signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, as reported by ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg.
For the Vikings, this development adds another layer of urgency to their offseason planning. The team is still evaluating rookie Jake Golday's potential as the third outside linebacker, but if interim general manager Rob Brzezinski is looking to add a proven veteran to the mix, the options are getting thinner by the day.
Danna, 28, was released by the Chiefs on Feb. 23 in a salary-cap move, and he didn't stay on the market long. The Bills, a perennial Super Bowl contender, quickly snapped him up. Danna is no stranger to Buffalo—he faced them in five regular-season games and four postseason matchups during his Chiefs tenure. His most memorable moment against them came in the 2024 AFC Championship Game, where he recorded a strip sack on Josh Allen (though the quarterback recovered the fumble).
Danna entered the league as a fifth-round pick in 2020 and has been a steady rotational presence ever since. His production has been consistent, if not spectacular: 2.5 sacks as a rookie, followed by 3, 5, 6.5, 3.5, and finally 1 sack in 2025. He's the kind of situational pass rusher who can make an impact in key moments—think of him as the Bills' version of what D.J. Wonnum was for the Vikings a few seasons ago.
For Minnesota, the hunt for an extra pass rusher continues. The Vikings still have some veteran alternatives to explore, but the free-agent pool is shrinking fast. With Danna now off the board, the pressure is on to find the right fit before the market dries up entirely.
