Blackburn Rovers are back in the managerial market after confirming that Michael O'Neill will not be returning to the helm on a permanent basis. O'Neill stepped in back in February, juggling his duties as Northern Ireland's head coach while guiding Rovers to Championship safety. Now, with his full focus back on international football, the search for a new leader at Ewood Park is officially underway. Here's a look at the early frontrunners to take the reins.

Gary Rowett currently leads the pack as the favorite for the job. Rowett took over at Leicester City in February but couldn't prevent their relegation to the Championship, and his future with the Foxes remains uncertain as they prepare for a League One campaign. Despite that setback, Rowett brings a wealth of Championship experience, having managed Oxford United, Birmingham City, Millwall, and Stoke City. His track record of steadying ships in the second tier makes him an appealing option for Blackburn.

David Wagner, the former Norwich City and Huddersfield Town boss, is also in the conversation. Wagner's last stint was at Norwich, where he departed in 2024, but he's best known for his heroics at Huddersfield—leading them to the Premier League and keeping them afloat for a season. His ability to inspire underdog successes could resonate with Rovers' ambitions.

Slaven Bilic brings a mix of Premier League pedigree and international experience. The Croatian made his name at West Ham, where he secured Europa League qualification and became a fan favorite. He's also managed the Croatia national team, West Brom, and Watford. His charismatic style and tactical nous could inject some flair into Blackburn's dugout.

Tony Mowbray is being linked with a return to a club he knows intimately. Mowbray spent five years at Blackburn, guiding them to promotion back to the Championship and establishing them as a stable second-tier side. His last role was at West Bromwich Albion, and a reunion with Rovers would be a sentimental yet practical choice.

Finally, Graham Alexander, currently at Bradford City, has been turning heads. He's done a tremendous job with the League One side, who are battling for promotion to the Championship via the play-offs. His ability to get results with limited resources might appeal to Blackburn's board as they look for a long-term project.

As the search heats up, Rovers fans will be hoping the next manager can build on O'Neill's rescue act and push the club back toward the top end of the Championship. Stay tuned for updates—and in the meantime, gear up for the new season with our latest training and match-day apparel!
