Former Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin, now holding the same position with New York Rangers, is reportedly one of the finalists for the vacant Toronto Maple Leafs general manager job.

According to a Sportsnet report, Martin joins Scott White (Jim Nill’s right-hand man in Dallas), former Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka and Boston assistant GM Evan Gold as the top candidates to replace the fired Brad Treliving.

Martin worked 16 years for the Red Wings, under both Ken Holland and then Steve Yzerman, before moving to the Rangers in 2021. When he was with the Red Wings, he served as their cap expert and GM of the Grand Rapids Griffins farm team. He was in that role when the team won the Calder Cup in 2017. Martin has also headed up the Rangers’ farm team.

Martin also has interviewed for the Nashville Predators job. There is no timetable on when the Maple Leafs will make a decision.

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin says: “It’s not about me.”

Should the Grand Rapids Griffins go with Sebastian Cossa in the playoffs? Or, should they look at multiple goalies. It’s not an easy answer. They have options.

The Red Wings still cannot be sure what they have with Marco Kasper

Detroit GM Steve Yzerman will have his annual state-of-the-team post-season press conference today. It his custom to address what happened the previous season, speak in general terms about his summer objectives and talk about his prospects.
