Obviously the NFL draft is about adding players. But what if you already added a player via draft? Then the NFL draft becomes a time to evaluate the trade based on opportunity cost.

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up pass rusher Joshua Uche in 2024 at the trade deadline in exchange for a 2026 NFL Draft pick. That’s a long year and a half.

Uche appeared in six games for the Chiefs in 2024 with just ten tackles. He left in free agency after the 2024 season, joining the Philadelphia Eagles. The former second-round pick just didn’t make an impact.

The Patriots held pick 191, but they traded down with the Jacksonville Jaguars to net 196 and 245.

At 245, they used the pick on Alabama RB Jam Miller.

It’s going to be hard for the Cheifs to come out on top here. Uche couldn’t generate a pass rush in KC. The only game he played more than 20% of the snaps was the blowout season finale with nothing to play for.
