The Canucks stick it to Rogers/Sportsnet on social media after Leafs win the Draft Lottery

LOL... this is next level petty.

The Vancouver Canucks just took "petty" to a whole new level—and hockey fans are absolutely loving it.

Here's what went down: The Toronto Maple Leafs won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery, securing the right to pick first overall at this June's draft in Buffalo. With just an 8.5% chance, the hockey gods smiled on the Leafs, giving them the opportunity to select projected top prospect Gavin McKenna.

The Leafs leapfrogged several teams, including the Calgary Flames, New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, and—most painfully—the Vancouver Canucks. The San Jose Sharks also jumped up to grab the second overall pick.

And that's where things get spicy.

The Canucks, originally sitting in the first overall spot, dropped all the way to third after being passed by both Toronto and San Jose. For a franchise that has been absolutely wrecked by the Draft Lottery throughout its history, this was another brutal chapter. In fact, the Canucks have entered the lottery seven times and have moved down in the draft every single time—never once moving up or holding their position.

So, with sour grapes in full effect, the Canucks did something beautifully petty.

According to the NHL's "Unfollow Tracker," the official Canucks Instagram account unfollowed Rogers—the parent company of Sportsnet and a major Leafs stakeholder—just minutes after the lottery results were announced. Yes, you read that right. A professional hockey team used social media to send a very clear, very public message.

Is it petty? Absolutely. But in the world of sports rivalries, it's also the kind of move that gets fans talking. And while Leafs fans are still riding high on their lottery win—so high that not even team president Keith Pelley could bring them down—Canucks fans are at least getting a good laugh out of this one.

Sometimes, when the hockey gods don't cooperate, you just have to take matters into your own hands—or, in this case, your own unfollow button.
