Toby Collyer has made no secret of his ambition: he wants to wear the Manchester United shirt on a regular basis. The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined United from Brighton's academy in 2022, has set his sights on breaking into the first team at Old Trafford.
"Everyone wants to play for Manchester United," Collyer told The Athletic. "That's my main goal, but if not, just playing in the Premier League." It's a sentiment that resonates with any young footballer dreaming of the big stage.
But the path hasn't been smooth. Collyer's campaign has been a tale of two loan spells, both cut short by untimely injuries. He started at West Bromwich Albion in August 2025, hoping to gain valuable Championship experience. He made 12 appearances for the Baggies—though only three starts and 253 minutes of action—before a calf injury in November forced an early return.
After recovering over the Christmas period, Collyer joined Hull City at the end of January, aiming to finish the season strong. But history repeated itself. He managed just five appearances for the Tigers, with one start and 104 minutes on the pitch, before twisting his ankle in an April training session following a collision with goalkeeper Dillon Phillips. Another loan spell, another premature ending.
Despite these setbacks, the England U20 international—once hailed as "excellent" by former United defender Rio Ferdinand—has already made 13 senior appearances for the Red Devils since his debut in August 2024. His contract runs until 2027, with a club option for an additional year, giving United time to decide his future.
For now, Collyer is focused on proving himself at Carrington. Whether he earns a regular spot at Old Trafford or carves out a career elsewhere in the Premier League, his determination is clear. For a young player with talent and drive, the journey is just beginning.
