Alpine driver Franco Colapinto has been handed an important piece of advice from football legend Lionel Messi after the pair met in Miami. Colapinto, 22, produced his best finish in Formula 1 after coming home seventh in the Miami Grand Prix, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Williams pair Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon.

When two Argentine legends meet, magic happens—and the Miami Grand Prix paddock became the stage for an unforgettable moment between football icon Lionel Messi and rising F1 star Franco Colapinto.

The 22-year-old Alpine driver delivered a career-best performance in Miami, crossing the line in seventh place—ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and the Williams duo of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon. It was a statement drive for the young Argentine, especially considering the drama that unfolded on the opening lap when he made contact with Lewis Hamilton, causing damage to the SF-26. Despite the setback, Colapinto showed remarkable composure to secure his finest result in Formula 1.

But before the race even began, Colapinto had already won a different kind of prize: a face-to-face meeting with his childhood hero. Inter Miami star and eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi was spotted in the paddock, taking time to connect with his fellow countryman. What followed was a piece of advice that Colapinto will carry with him far beyond the racetrack.

"I think he has to live his own story," Messi said in an interview with Lo Del Pollo. "And be prepared for a lot of things, because when you're in the public eye, things come at you from all sides—the good and the bad. Especially in the bad times, he needs support, with those close to him, his family, his circle. Because in the end, that's what helps him get through difficult times. When things are going well, it's much easier and people get closer to you, but the important thing is knowing who's there when things are going badly."

For Colapinto, meeting Messi was nothing short of a dream come true. Speaking to ESPN, he said: "Many dreams have come true in the last seven days. I'm happy and enjoying the moment, seeing Leo here visiting. All the drivers were ready for the race, and I was with him in jeans. The fact that he came to support me with his whole family is very special. Seeing my idol and the hero of all Argentinians again was great. It's a great result, and it's good to give something positive to Argentinians. I'm very optimistic; this is a good start, and we're going."

From the football pitch to the F1 track, Argentina's finest are inspiring a new generation—and proving that greatness is about more than just winning. It's about knowing who's in your corner when the road gets rough.
