The Ravens entered the 2025 NFL Draft needing to replace Justin Tucker, but unlike their last specialist selection in 2022 – punter Jordan Stout – the team was patient in waiting for their next kicker. Special teams coach Randy Brown identified Arizona’s Tyler Loop as the man for the job, but general manager Eric DeCosta waited until the sixth round to grab him. In fact, Baltimore traded back 10 spots before selecting Loop, which enabled them to upgrade a future sixth-round pick to a fifth-rounder.

Jets get: 2025 fifth rounder (No. 176, used on EDGE Tyler Baron) and 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 194, later traded to Titans as part of Jarvis Brownlee trade)

Ravens get: 2025 sixth-rounder (No. 186, used on K Tyler Loop) and 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 142, later traded to Titans for Dre’Mont Jones)

Interestingly, the 2026 picks that were exchanged now both belong to the Titans via the Jets’ trade for Jarvis Brownlee and the Ravens for Dre’Mont Jones.

Loop’s rookie year will be best-remembered for the 44-yard field goal he pushed right in the Week 18 loss to the Steelers that kept the Ravens out of the playoffs. Many fans who were cursing Loop that night were thanking him just days later when John Harbaugh was fired.

Loop’s dramatic miss – his only one from inside 50 yards – overshadowed a consistent debut campaign from the 24-year-old. He converted 30 of his 34 field goal attempts (88.2%) and 44 of his 46 extra points (95.7%), though he struggled on kickoffs with eight penalties. Despite training camp talk about the rookie’s big leg, the Ravens only allowed him to attempt four field goals from beyond 50 yards, and he made just one.

New head coach Jesse Minter indicated that he was confident in Loop heading into his second year, but did not rule out the possibility of bringing in some competition this summer.

The Ravens used the fifth-rounder they received from the Jets to acquire Titans edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones at last year’s trade deadline. He added some much-needed juice to Baltimore’s pass rush in the second half of the season, contributing 2.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits. Jones then signed with the Patriots in free agency for just over $12 million per year, which is expected to net the Ravens a compensatory fifth-round pick in 2027.

New York traded up to No. 176 in 2025 to select Miami edge rusher Tyler Baron. He only appeared in six games as a rookie with 95 snaps on defense and 35 on special teams. In Week 14, Baron was carted off the field with a knee injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

The Jets later traded the Ravens’ 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 194) to the Titans in exchange for cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and a 2026 seventh-rounder (No. 238). Brownlee appeared in seven games in New York with a 62% snap share and allowed just 5.4 yards per target – a solid return for moving about 40 picks back late on Day 3.

As for that seventh-rounder, it now belongs to Miami. Originally owned by the Chargers and acquired by Tennessee in the 2024 Elijah Molden trade, the Jets then passed it to the Dolphins to pick up Minkah Fitzpatrick this offseason.
