Auburn basketball is making moves in the transfer portal, with Texas forward Camden Heide scheduling a visit to The Plains. The Tigers, looking to bolster their frontcourt after Elyjah Freeman entered the portal, are set to host the sharpshooting forward this Saturday, April 18.
Heide, a versatile 6'6" forward, brings valuable experience and a proven three-point stroke. After two seasons at Purdue, he transferred to Texas, where he showed significant development. This past season for the Longhorns, he averaged 5.9 points per game while knocking down an impressive 45.4% of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Auburn fans got a firsthand look at his potential earlier this year. In a January matchup against the Tigers—an 88-82 Auburn victory—Heide erupted for 17 points, going a scorching 5-for-6 from three-point range. That performance showcased exactly the kind of floor-spacing threat he can be.
His skill set would be a perfect fit for Coach Bruce Pearl's system. Heide's ability to stretch the defense would open driving lanes for dynamic guards like Tahaad Pettiford and create more space for the Tigers' returning core, which includes Kevin Overton and Sebastian Williams-Adams. Adding a reliable outside shooter of his caliber could be the key to unlocking a new level for Auburn's offense next season.
