Romello Height had a dream that he was going to be taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2026 NFL Draft. Though the logo and team name didn't materialize in his slumber, Height saw the colors of scarlet and gold, white and black.
Height spent the final year of his college career sporting three of those colors with the Texas Tech football team. It was the gold that stood out to let the defensive end know his future rested in San Francisco.
"It's not a surprise and I kinda felt it," Height said. "I've been having that feeling all week that it was gonna be the 49ers and I was telling my agent the whole time that it was either gonna be the Colts or the Niners and thank God that it was the Niners."
Height said he spoke with 49ers brass at the Combine and not again until he took one of his visits to San Francisco. After hearing how the Niners wanted to use him in their defensive scheme, he felt like it was the right spot for him to land.
"Everything happens for a reason," Height said. "I was expecting to go a little earlier but I was just thinking God got me. He gonna get me in a place that I need to be in and we gonna thrive.
"It's a huge blessing to be with the Niners because, man, we finna go win Super Bowls."
Height was well-traveled in his college career before landing at Texas Tech for his final season. Playing opposite of David Bailey, the No. 2 pick in the draft, Height produced a career-high 9.5 sacks after generating 6.5 in four years combined at Auburn, USC and Georgia Tech.
San Francisco also has standout Nick Bosa, who Height says he'll "wreak havoc" alongside.
During his visit with the 49ers, Height said he spoke at length with defensive coordinator Raheem Morris about different ways the team can use him, including moving him around to display his versatility.
Coming off a season where the 49ers generated just 20 sacks, Height "humbly" says that he'll be able to help that stat grow.
