Texas State University has made a significant commitment to the future of its women's basketball program, locking in new head coach Chris Kielsmeier with a five-year contract. The deal, which runs through the 2030-31 season, signals a bold new direction for the Bobcats as they prepare to enter the competitive Pac-12 conference.

Kielsmeier arrives in San Marcos with an impressive track record, having built Cleveland State into a consistent winner over seven seasons. His tenure there culminated in a stellar 180-80 overall record, including six 20-win campaigns and a memorable 30-5 season in 2023 that ended with an NCAA Tournament appearance. This proven ability to develop a program is precisely what Texas State is banking on for its own resurgence.

The financial details of the contract underscore the university's investment. Kielsmeier will earn an annual salary of $300,000, a notable increase from the $215,000 he made at Cleveland State. To facilitate the move, Texas State is also providing a $25,000 payment to cover his buyout from his previous contract. The agreement is further incentivized with performance bonuses, including $10,000 for an NCAA Tournament berth and additional payouts for postseason wins and Pac-12 championships.

This fresh start comes at a crucial time for the program. The Bobcats are looking to rebound from a challenging 11-19 season and the departure of several players to the transfer portal. The hiring aligns with the university's broader athletic ambitions, as emphasized by President Kelly Damphousse, who stated the move is essential for competing for championships in their new conference home. For fans and players alike, the Kielsmeier era represents a renewed focus on building a winning culture in San Marcos.
