Texas basketball made a bold statement this offseason, and it all started with a clear vision and relentless execution in the NCAA transfer portal. Head coach Rodney Miller, now in his second year on the Forty Acres, didn't waste any time. After a whirlwind first season that saw the Longhorns go from the First Four to a surprising Sweet 16 run, Miller and his staff knew they needed to hit the ground running.

"It was really just a crazy time in college sports in general," Miller recalled on The Field of 68. "We all just tried to land at the new place that we were at and get one foot on the ground." But now, with a year of experience under his belt, Miller feels far more settled. "It's really healthy to have the perspective of being at that place for a year, being in that league for a year — you're just much more sure footed," he said. "You learn a lot about the place that you're now at and what you need to be successful."

That clarity translated into a sharp, aggressive strategy when the transfer portal window opened just after the national championship game. "We really wanted to be super aggressive right out of the gates, knowing that we had some real needs to fill," Miller explained. And fill them they did. The Longhorns landed five key transfers, a class that 247Sports ranked third nationally in both total points and average player rating.

Leading the charge are two standout additions: TCU transfer forward David Punch, ranked the No. 9 player in the portal, and Colorado transfer guard Isaiah Johnson, ranked No. 14. Both are rising stars—Punch as a junior and Johnson as a sophomore—and they bring exactly the kind of size and athleticism Texas needs on the wing. With this new firepower and a year of lessons learned, the Longhorns are ready to take the next step in Austin.
