No. 7 Texas A&M (31-8, 12-6 SEC) dropped its first game since April 7 on the road vs. Texas State, as Friday night's miserable 9-2 loss to the Florida Gators was defined on the mound, starting with Florida ace Aiden King's brilliant eight innings, striking out six while allowing just two runs off Gavin Grahovac's home run in the third inning.
Texas A&M's offense was average at best compared to the Aggies' consistent dominance at the plate, recording five hits on the night, but couldn't figure out King after Grahovac's homer, and failed to produce timely hits, unlike the offense's performance during last weekend's sweep over LSU.
Notably, freshmen standouts Jorian Wilson, Nico Partida, and Boston Kellner went a combined 0-10, while star junior Caden Sorrell also failed to record a hit in four attempts. Basically, defining this team's performance as one of the program's worst this season is an overstatement, while playing in Gainesville against Florida's elite starting pitching staff has been a challenge for every ranked SEC team.
Heading into Saturday's late afternoon showdown, Texas A&M star LHP Aiden Sims will take the mound, looking to stay undefeated on the year, but after burning Gavin Lyons and Clayton Freshcorn on Friday, coach Michael Earley and pitching coach Jason Kelly's strategy will be interesting to watch.
