Texas A&M football is on a roll. After head coach Mike Elko guided the Aggies into the College Football Playoff last season, the program is proving that success is no flash in the pan—especially on the recruiting trail.
On Friday, the Aggies landed a massive piece of their future, securing a commitment from Mark Matthews, the five-star offensive tackle out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Matthews, widely regarded as the top offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 class, chose Texas A&M over powerhouse programs like Georgia, LSU, and Miami.
According to 247Sports, Matthews is ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 1 offensive tackle, and the top player in the state of Florida. That's the kind of talent that can anchor an offensive line for years to come.
Matthews has been a force since his freshman year, when he started on the defensive line. As a sophomore, he switched to left tackle and helped lead his team to a 12-3 record and a 5A state championship. Last season, he anchored the offensive line as St. Thomas Aquinas repeated as 5A state champs with a 14-1 record.
With Matthews in the fold, Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is shaping up to be something special. Of the Aggies' 14 commitments, 13 are rated as four-star prospects or better. They also lead the nation in five-star commitments with five—a feat that hasn't been seen since the historic 2022 class that featured eight five-star recruits and ranked No. 1 nationally.
Matthews joins a growing list of elite talent already committed to the Aggies, including safety JayQuan Snell (Waxahachie, TX), cornerback Raylaun Henry (St. Frances Academy, MD), defensive lineman Zyron Forstall (IMG Academy, FL), and fellow five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown (Kingwood, TX).
For Aggie fans, the message is clear: Texas A&M isn't just winning now—it's building a foundation for sustained dominance. And with Matthews leading the charge up front, the future has never looked brighter.
