In the fast-paced world of college basketball, roster spending has become a game-changer—and Texas head coach Sean Miller just dropped a jaw-dropping estimate on how many programs are going all-in. During a recent appearance on the Field of 68 show, Miller was asked by hosts Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster to guess how many teams would spend at least $20 million on their rosters heading into the 2026-27 season.
"I pay close attention to the SEC, and I think we competed at a very high level," Miller said. "The University of Texas is investing in our basketball program to allow us to compete for the top prize, and I think we’re in the company of about seven or eight teams that are really along the same lines as us. But an educated guess? Sometimes you don’t have all the information. I would say 20 to 25 teams."
That's right—Miller estimates that two dozen programs might be shelling out eight-figure sums to stack their rosters with elite talent. While he didn't confirm whether the Longhorns fall into that bracket, it's hard to imagine Texas holding back, especially with the intense competition in the SEC. As NIL continues to reshape college hoops, this kind of spending isn't just about keeping up—it's about chasing championships.
