The Houston Texans have high hopes for the 2025 season, and all eyes are on quarterback C.J. Stroud. After a standout rookie campaign that earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, Stroud faced some growing pains in last year's playoffs. Despite a wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, four interceptions in the divisional round loss to the New England Patriots highlighted areas for improvement.
This offseason, Stroud has taken a different approach. He's slimmed down, added muscle, and transformed his look, signaling a fresh mindset for what could be a pivotal year. The Texans have been busy too, upgrading their offense and defensive depth to build a roster capable of winning not just the AFC South, but the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans has taken notice of Stroud's dedication. "C.J.'s done a really good job all offseason just continuing to be locked in and preparing the right way," Ryans said. "He’s been dialed in to our strength sessions, coaching sessions, and meetings. That’s all you can ask for."
While the praise is flowing, the big question remains: will a contract extension follow? Stroud is seen as a foundational piece, but he's one of the last key Texans to get a new deal. In the past two years, Houston has locked up Pro Bowl wideout Nico Collins and All-Pro defensive stars, making Stroud's extension a natural next step. With his improved physique and renewed focus, the 2025 season could be the one that earns him a long-term commitment—and maybe even a trip to the Super Bowl.
