The Houston Texans are making a major commitment to staying put in Harris County—and that means big things for both the team and the city.

While the franchise recently announced plans to build a new permanent indoor practice facility in the Bridgeland area (moving operations outside The Loop), their game-day home is staying right where it is. Speaking at the team's annual charity golf event, Texans' primary owner and CEO Cal McNair confirmed that the franchise and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have reached a mutual understanding to keep playing football at Reliant Stadium for the long haul.

“What we’ve talked to the Rodeo about is we’re going to make it work, and so we’ll figure out a way to make it work and have everybody a winner in this thing,” McNair told reporters.

This is a significant development, especially considering that the Texans' current lease with Harris County and the Rodeo runs through 2032. Earlier this offseason, there were whispers about the franchise potentially exploring options outside the county. But McNair’s comments put those rumors to rest—at least for the immediate future.

Team president Mike Tomon explained why staying put makes so much sense. “If you take a step back and look at Reliant Park, the attributes of it—you have 350 continuous acres on major arteries with 610, and soon to be the third largest city in the United States. That is pretty special. When we think about our partnership with the Rodeo, we’re both aligned on doing everything we can to make it work on that specific site because we really think that can be transformative for the city of Houston.”

The Texans are also planning significant renovations around Reliant Stadium ahead of the 2026 season, ensuring the venue remains a top-tier NFL experience for years to come. For fans and the city alike, this is a win—keeping the team's heart right in the middle of Houston's evolving sports landscape.
