The SEC women's basketball landscape just got more interesting. Talaysia Cooper, the dynamic guard who led the Tennessee Lady Vols in scoring, is taking her talents to Oxford, announcing her transfer to Ole Miss for her final year of eligibility.
This move keeps the high-impact scorer within the conference and marks a significant offseason pickup for head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. Known for her prowess in the transfer portal, Coach Yo has successfully built her Rebels into an NCAA Tournament contender by integrating elite talent like Cotie McMahon and Marquesha Davis. Cooper appears to be the latest cornerstone in that strategy.
"Talaysia is a key piece to this reload here at Ole Miss," McPhee-McCuin stated. "I've known her since she was in 9th grade... There's no doubt in my mind, Coop will thrive with a fresh start and reach her peak to compete at the highest level and prepare for her future as a pro."
Cooper's credentials are impressive. A former McDonald's All-American and top-20 national recruit, she spent two seasons at Tennessee after beginning her career at South Carolina. There, she was a two-time All-SEC selection, averaging 16.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and nearly 3 steals per game. The 6-foot guard from South Carolina brings a versatile scoring punch, having shot 42% from the field and 34% from three-point range last season.
Her departure is part of a major roster overhaul at Tennessee, where she was one of eight Lady Vols to enter the transfer portal this offseason. For Ole Miss, securing a player of Cooper's caliber this early signals ambitious intentions for the upcoming season, adding a proven scorer to a program that knows how to maximize transfer talent.
