In a move that shakes up the SEC recruiting landscape, four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II has committed to Alabama, choosing the Crimson Tide over his hometown Tennessee Volunteers, along with Georgia and Ole Miss. For a player who grew up dreaming of running through the T at Neyland Stadium, this decision wasn't easy—but it was clear.
Simon, a standout from Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, is ranked No. 144 in the Rivals Industry Rankings and brings a legacy connection to the Vols: his father played for Tennessee. Yet, after deep reflection and a pivotal conversation, Simon knew his path led to Tuscaloosa.
"I talked to God… and He told me I needed to go to Bama," Simon shared with Rivals. "That's all I thought about growing up, but you've got to go somewhere that puts you in the best position. The feeling about Alabama was different than the others."
It wasn't about the flash of visits or timing—it was about conviction. Alabama had been in the mix throughout, but Simon's most recent trip to Tuscaloosa sealed the deal. He connected immediately with the defensive staff, particularly linebackers coach Chuck Morrell and coordinator Kane Wommack.
"Coach Morrell is a great coach. He knows a lot about linebackers and the development of guys like myself," Simon said. "He promised he'd put everything into making me the best version of myself. That means a lot."
Head coach Kalen DeBoer also made a lasting impression. "He's a winner… and he hates losing. When you've got coaches and players that hate losing, things are going to go right."
For Simon, the Alabama culture was the deciding factor. "The standard they hold you to is different. When you think of Alabama, you think of winning and working hard. I want to be held to that standard."
As the Crimson Tide continues to reload with elite talent, Simon's commitment adds a powerful, versatile linebacker to a defense known for producing NFL-ready players. For fans of Alabama football—and those who love the grit and grind of SEC competition—this is a name to watch.
