Tennessee is making waves on the recruiting trail once again, and the Vols are proving that their climb to the top of college football is no fluke. Under head coach Josh Heupel, the program has already inked the nation's No. 9 class for the 2026 cycle back in February, and now they're turning heads in the 2027 cycle with a promising start.
With seven early commitments, Tennessee currently holds the No. 23 spot in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings—a solid foundation that signals the Vols are building for sustained success. The crown jewel of this class so far came on March 28, when Nashville's Brentwood Academy four-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman pledged his allegiance. Bowman, ranked as the No. 3 player in Tennessee and a top-60 national prospect, was previously committed to Oregon but decided to stay closer to home.
"Tennessee always feels like home," Bowman shared with Rivals' Chad Simmons. "They have been recruiting me hard from the start. I have great relationships with Coach Heupel, Coach Pope, and basically the whole staff. I have been there a lot, and just being around those people makes it feel like home."
Bowman is one of four in-state commits in this early group, highlighting the Vols' stronghold on local talent. Murfreesboro Siegel's four-star offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo was an early win back in November and remains locked in. The Peach State is also well-represented, with Summerville (Ga.) Chattooga four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife joining in the fall, and Milton (Ga.) three-star quarterback Derrick Baker pledging in February.
Here's a closer look at Tennessee's 2027 recruiting class so far, a mix of star power and depth that has fans buzzing:
Quarterback: Three-star Derrick Baker, No. 593 nationally (No. 37 QB)
Wide Receiver: Four-star Kesean Bowman, No. 58 nationally (No. 10 WR)
Offensive Tackle: Four-star Princeton Uwaifo, No. 136 nationally (No. 13 OT)
Defensive Lineman: Four-star Kadin Fife, No. 343 nationally (No. 36 DL)
Linebacker: Three-star JP Peace, No. 499 nationally (No. 43 LB)
Cornerback: Three-star Carter Jamison, No. 991 nationally (No. 97 CB)
Safety: Three-star Jaden Butler, No. 494 nationally (No. 44 S)
With Heupel's high-octane offense and a defensive foundation taking shape, Tennessee is proving that recruiting like a top-tier program is key to their championship aspirations. Stay tuned—this class is only getting started.
