The Tennessee Volunteers basketball program saw another key piece of its roster move on, as guard Clarence Massamba officially transferred to UC Irvine on April 30. Massamba, who entered the transfer portal on April 6, becomes the sixth Vol to depart this offseason, joining forwards J.P. Estrella (Michigan), Jaylen Carey (Missouri), and Cade Phillips (Texas A&M), along with guards Bishop Boswell (Maryland) and Amari Evans (Texas).

Massamba saw limited action during his time in Knoxville, logging minutes in 12 games and averaging just 0.3 points, 0.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 3.5 minutes per contest. Prior to his collegiate career, he played professionally in France's LNB Espoirs league for AS Monaco Basket during the 2024-25 season—a background that gives UC Irvine a seasoned, international presence in the backcourt.

While the Vols have seen significant roster turnover, they've also been active on the recruiting trail, bringing in six transfers to bolster the lineup. Key additions include Belmont graduate transfer guard Tyler Lundblade, Cal guard Dai Dai Ames, Loyola (Chicago) center Miles Rubin, VCU guard Terrence Hill Jr., Notre Dame forward Jalen Haralson, and Kennesaw State forward Braedan Lue. With only two returners—freshman forward DeWayne Brown II and freshman guard Troy Henderson—Tennessee is essentially rebuilding for the upcoming season.

Adding to the roster shake-up, star freshman forward Nate Ament has declared for the 2026 NBA Draft, while sophomore guard Ethan Burg has returned to his home country of Israel. On the bright side, the Vols' incoming high school class features three four-star recruits: forwards Chris Washington Jr. and Ralph Scott, and wing Manny Green, plus three-star guard Marquis Clark.

For UC Irvine, landing Massamba adds depth and experience to a program looking to make waves in the Big West. As the offseason continues to heat up, it's clear both teams are making bold moves to shape their futures.
