The Tennessee Volunteers' backcourt is getting thinner as freshman guard Troy Henderson has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Henderson confirmed the move via a shared Instagram post, becoming the latest departure from a roster undergoing significant turnover.

With the portal opening on April 7, the exodus leaves the Vols with just three confirmed returning players from the 2025-26 squad: sophomore guard Ethan Burg, freshman guard Amari Evans, and freshman forward DeWayne Brown II. The roster reshaping continues with freshman Nate Ament expected to declare for the NBA draft.

Henderson's freshman campaign in Knoxville was a challenging one. The 6-foot-1 guard saw action in 28 games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.0 assists. His role diminished significantly in SEC play after suffering a shoulder injury on January 24, which caused him to miss several games. Head coach Rick Barnes later confirmed the freshman would require offseason surgery to address the issue.

Despite the limited minutes, Henderson showed flashes of his potential. His best performance came in a thrilling double-overtime victory over Texas A&M on January 13, where he contributed eight points in 22 minutes of action, helping secure an 87-82 win. As he looks for a fresh start elsewhere, the Vols are left to rebuild their guard depth for the upcoming season.
