That’s not totally unfair, as Tennessee’s bats came to play in a big, big way in the Vols’ finale against the Rebels on Sunday after very little the previous two days. Ole Miss took the first two games of the series by scores of 7-4 and 8-1, with the Vols’ offense being downright offensive over the first 18 innings of the series.

But on Sunday, Tennessee finally did what they haven’t done much of inside (the very, very not friendly confines) of Lindsey Nelson Stadium this year in SEC play — score runs.

After Ole Miss took the lead 1-0 on an RBI single by Tristan Bissetta in the top of the third, the big inning finally came for the Vols. Levi Clark deposited the ball over the wall in left center for a 2-1 lead. And that was just the start. Blake Grimmer clubbed one out to right with two on to give the Vols a 5-1 lead to end the third.

Clark extended the lead to 7-1 with his second home run in the bottom of the fourth. And they’d need it, because Ole Miss would pull to 7-5 after Bissetta, who clubbed a grand slam on Saturday, drilled a two-run shot in the top of the seventh. But Grimmer lifted a solo home run to right to make in 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh.

The next inning, Henry Ford removed all issue with a three-run homer up into the gazebos in left center for an 11-5 lead. And for funsies, Grimmer smashed home run number three on the day to right to finish the scoring at 13-5.

It was the first three-homer game for a Vol since Christian Moore went off against the Kentucky Wildcats back in 2024. Hopefully it will be the start of something big for Tennessee’s offense, particularly at home, where runs have been hard to come by in conference play.

Up next for the Vols is Lipscomb on Tuesday before a home series with Alabama that begins on Thursday.
