Tennessee baseball fans have another reason to celebrate as sophomore pitcher Tegan Kuhns has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. The conference announced the honor on Monday, following Kuhns' dominant performance in the Volunteers' 5-1 victory over Texas on May 8 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Kuhns was nearly untouchable against the Longhorns, pitching seven innings while allowing just four hits and one walk. He struck out 15 batters—a feat not seen from a Tennessee pitcher since James Adkins fanned 15 against Winthrop in the 2005 NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional. The win was Kuhns' fourth of the 2026 campaign.
The right-hander has been on a remarkable run lately, not allowing a run in three of his last four starts. In those three scoreless appearances, he has recorded at least nine strikeouts each time, showcasing the kind of command and dominance that makes him a rising star in college baseball.
Kuhns now joins elite company in Tennessee history. He is one of only three Volunteers to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week multiple times in the same season, alongside Liam Doyle (who won the award three times in 2025) and Chase Dollander (who earned it twice in 2022).
For Volunteers fans, Kuhns' emergence is a thrilling development as the season progresses. Whether you're cheering from the stands or repping the orange and white at home, performances like this make it easy to feel the energy of Tennessee baseball.
