Golf teams from across Lenawee County kicked off their seasons this past week, with Tecumseh taking a win at the Murdock Memorial Invitational.

The Lenawee County high school golf season is off to a thrilling start, and Tecumseh has already made a major statement. The Indians captured a dramatic victory at the unique Larry Murdock Memorial Invitational, edging out host Ida by a mere two points in a tense Division 1 finish.

Held at Green Meadows Golf Course in Monroe, this tournament stands out from a typical stroke-play event. It utilizes the exciting Stableford scoring system, where golfers earn points for eagles, birdies, pars, and bogeys, rewarding aggressive play and risk-taking on the course.

Tecumseh's squad rose to the challenge, posting a winning total of 156 points to claim the top spot. Clinton also represented Lenawee County strongly in Division 1, finishing fifth with 144 points, while Onsted placed seventh.

Over in Division 2, the Madison Trojans secured a podium finish, earning runner-up honors with 99 points. Hudson also competed, finishing with 69 points in a competitive field.

The individual competition was fierce, with Dundee's Levi Evans claiming medalist honors in spectacular fashion. Evans sealed his win by sinking an eagle on the final hole, finishing with a tournament-best 47 Stableford points.

He led a talented All-Tournament team that included several local standouts. Clinton's Brandon Ruhl and Onsted's Cole England, who fired a career-low 77, were among the 12 golfers recognized for their outstanding play.

For Onsted, the tournament was a solid team effort. Behind England's strong performance, contributions from Jayden Valasek and Mason Chesser helped the Wildcats secure a seventh-place finish in the 16-team field, a promising start as they look to build momentum for the season ahead.
