Tech3 discussing future with Honda as KTM’s financial worries growTalks between Tech3 and Honda have been ongoing, fuelled by growing concerns about KTM’s financial stability and long-term presence in MotoGP. Since breaking away from Yamaha in 2019, the French outfit has partnered with KTM.

The MotoGP paddock is buzzing with the news that Tech3, the French satellite team, is in serious talks to jump ship from KTM to Honda. This potential seismic shift is driven by growing concerns over KTM's financial stability and its long-term commitment to the premier class.

Since ending its long-standing partnership with Yamaha in 2019, Tech3 has been the satellite arm of the Austrian factory. However, with their current contract expiring at the end of this season and KTM's future clouded by financial uncertainty, new owner Guenther Steiner is exploring a dramatic switch. The target? Aligning with the iconic Japanese manufacturer, Honda.

For Honda, a deal with Tech3 is a strategic masterstroke. The manufacturer is aggressively pursuing a six-bike grid presence by 2027 to rival Ducati's formidable army. Tech3's potential defection from KTM's RC16 to Honda's RC213V would be a major coup in that expansion plan.

The backdrop to this move is KTM's precarious financial position. Following insolvency proceedings at the end of 2024, significant debts were revealed, casting doubt on its MotoGP project. While shareholder Bajaj Auto provided a lifeline with cost-cutting measures, the long-term vision remains unclear, prompting Tech3 to scout for a more secure home.

Interestingly, Tech3 was also linked with a move to Ducati machinery, especially as Gresini Racing was rumored to be a free agent. However, with Gresini now likely staying put, Honda has emerged as the clear and most viable alternative for the French squad.

Should Tech3 depart, it would be a major blow to KTM's MotoGP project, forcing them back to a two-bike factory-only structure—a scenario that benefits neither the manufacturer nor the championship's desire for competitive depth. This high-stakes negotiation is more than a simple team switch; it's a power play that could reshape the competitive landscape for seasons to come.
