SARANAC — While lopsided scores dominated the day in CVAC baseball, one game stood out as a true pitcher's duel: Saranac's 5-1 win over Northeastern Clinton. The Spartans got sweet revenge after falling to the Cougars the day before, and they did it with stellar pitching and timely hitting.
Both starters went the distance, combining for just two earned runs. Saranac's Adrian Barnes earned the win, scattering six hits while striking out five and walking two. NCCS's Robert McIntyre was nearly as sharp, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts.
"Barnes and McIntyre both did a good job commanding the zone and using their pitch mix to get ahead in counts," Saranac coach Robby Knowles said. "Barnes did a good job of missing the barrel and got a lot of weak contact."
The game was tight early, with Saranac nursing a 1-0 lead through three innings. Then came the breakout fourth, when the Spartans plated four runs. Brody Macomber delivered the big blow with a two-strike triple, and Wyatt Barton followed with an RBI single. Barton finished with two hits on the day.
"Macomber and Barton have been solid for us at the plate," Knowles added. "Macomber had a big two-strike triple that drove in two runs."
Jordan Wells doubled for the Cougars, who managed six hits but couldn't crack the scoreboard until late.

TICONDEROGA — If you love offense, this doubleheader was for you. Jackson Dorsett put on a show, hitting for the cycle over two games as Ticonderoga swept Northern Adirondack.
In Game 1, Trevor Blanchard led the charge with three hits and two RBIs, while Parker Davis and Brady Mydlarz each added two hits. Dorsett also pitched well, getting the win on the mound.
"Jackson Dorsett was strong on the mound in Game 1, and Trevor Blanchard paced us in the leadoff spot by getting on base every time," Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said. "A big second inning helped us secure the win."
Game 2 was even more explosive. Dorsett went deep twice, added a triple and a single, and drove in six runs. Mydlarz chipped in three hits, and both Rowen Bechtold and Owen teRiele had two apiece.
But the story of the second game might be Bechtold's relief appearance. He entered in the second inning with the score 8-5 and proceeded to shut down NAC completely, striking out eight without walking a batter.
"Rowen Bechtold came in the second inning in an 8-5 game and held NAC scoreless the rest of the game while striking out eight and walking none," Dorsett said. "He did not allow a baserunner."
Jackson Bassett doubled for NAC in Game 2, but the Bobcats couldn't keep pace. The team has played only one home game all season, making their road grind even tougher.
